CNY

  • Jan. 29th, 2009 at 4:52 PM

its cny week and i just got back from my grandma's hse in malacca. same old routine, go back, gamble x99, come back. our family aint really into the bai nian culture as we are always back in malacca for the first few days of CNY, so we only get people coming over to bai nian. den give ang pao. this couples with me mostly only get RM$ ang paos instead of S$. thats divided by 2.3++ know. and the fact is people usually just put $8 or $10, regardless of currency. how sad. ----------------- these leads to a budget defecit each CNY -------------------

was told that if you hu shi san yao, you will be unlucky for the rest of the year. phew, i did it LAST year (count chinese calender ma!)

cny's a time for reunion; lovers, friends & family. colin/hh/daniel/daoen/bhavin/etc. has gone into army, that leaves lesser friends to play with (and less mahjong kakis). but we're not meeting up at all

flying off for bangkok tomorrow evening, goodbye!

support

  • Jan. 12th, 2009 at 3:41 PM

support; too much of it makes a person dependant/reliant on others. too little of it leaves people fragile.

sometimes, when you need the support, there are reason, you can't ask for it. it makes you feel alone.

guys, i know what i'm doing. don't try to wake me up anymore. cause regardless, we've came this far, and there is no turning back. i've gave it all, and will continue to do so. i'll just choose to trust and believe. sorryfor all the aeroplanes, (i wanna be a pilot anyway =)),stubborness if my actions disappoint any of you, and i hope i will not regret them.

christmas week

  • Dec. 26th, 2008 at 11:57 PM

its amazing how emotions can get over people, making them do things that they will regret, a split second later, minutes, days, or sometimes, forever. i just typed a pessimistic/emo/jaded blog entry out of rashness just now at 11plus but i decided to remove it and look at the brighter side of things.

christmas eve

went over to jl's place at night for a bbq party. i realised that everytime i go to BBQs i just love to start the fire and bbq food for people all the way. guess its just the male ego in me that like to feel that i've "accomplished" something or done something for others, it gives me a sense of satisfaction and makes me feel good :) but this is gonna kill me soon from all the carsinogens i breathed in that night. "aiya the most tio cancer nia ma."

present from jl, inside is a A|X shirt. thank you bro!

impending christmas

  • Dec. 23rd, 2008 at 12:23 AM

after a hectic week of fun and sunburn, this week started off with darryl and me waking up at 7am to head to east coast park (again to cycle) and for breakfast. jaclyn if your reading this, me going out not = with a girl, nor miss.extortion -.-!

the purpose of this whole thing was to check out this restaurant by the sea, to book for christmas night dinner. 2 hours of non-stop cycling in the hot sun can kill.

darryl and i at T2

after cycling at ecp (not a good place for babe watching) we decided to shun bian take 36 to airport (good place for babe watching) to look for jobs in the transit area. this is gonna be the first time im complaining about the world reknowned Singapore Changi Airport...

ok here it goes : feisal told me over the phone that you have to look for the place where you change pass to go in the transit area, which is the immigration police counter to get application form for jobs

- we went to T3 and ask the immigration police they say go T2
- at T2, we went to the immigration police they say they duno
- information counter dunno anything
- the place to change pass policewoman with a cb attitude also duno
- back to info counter
- asked to go the DFS office located at another wing
- hunted for 20 mins to find that really WULU place
- DFS office closed
- back to counter to change pass to ask again, i am damn sure that cb policewoman is just noob.
- gave up and ate lunch at the staff canteen
total time : 2 hours of walking

been writing christmas cards for the past 4 days too. a few more to go and i can send them out later today.

tiring week of fun

  • Dec. 18th, 2008 at 1:20 AM

i heard this on the radio just yesterday, something about scientific research has shown that romantic shows/comedy/etc is harmful for relationships. it influences viewers to view relationship in a very wrong way, like believing in love at first sight, instant forgiveness, chauvinism etc. thats very true.

shall upload K/bowling/pool pics from ytd and "australia" cycling trip when i get'em.

to be continued...

***updated***

wai chung with his amazing bowling pose

just last tuesday the dudes came over to my place to discuss our genting trip, sing K, den go sgcc play bowling, pool den went Sushi Tei for dinner. i really hope our genting trip is gonna work out this time, cause we've been saying we wanna go since sec 3?

anyways, do try the Wakame Salad in Sushi Tei, and choose the Sushi Tei dressing. its awesome, $7, portion wise 2 person should be just nice. sorry forgot to take pic

the following day : met up with hh,yiling, jessica and michelle (new friend) for cycling in Australia. serious. check out the pics above, we went to australia.

all thanks to the smart people who planned this cycling activity at the hottest time of the day, we're all sunburnt. but it was still fun nonetheless. whats next? kayaking?

view of seletar reservoir from OCC

played 18 holes of golf with my dad,bro and bro-in-law at OCC just yesterday, also at noon (1pm onwards). now kavin is red-hot, and in pain.

hang on tight, before i leave and never come back

Dec. 15th, 2008

  • 9:39 PM

the weekend started off with a tired/stressed out kavin still suffering from irregular (bad) sleeping habits and the post-compass test effect.

Friday

met up with some primary school folks barry, darryl, wilbur on friday for chomp chomp dinner before heading down to parry park to play swing/wilbur's house then my house to catch up.

was supposed to go club with hh/daniel and others that night after meeting e folks but ended up staying home so i would have energy to give FREE tuition the following morning (being extorted by miss.extortion again). im so proud of myself cause i still remember how to do Differentiation And Its Applications after rotting my brains out ever since the end of As.

Saturday

without 4 hours of sleep the past night and after a 5 hour brain-draining tuition, kavin/kavin-brother/kavin-brother-girlfriend/jl and friends went for zoukOut at sentosa at night. my first and my last zoukOut. the $58 door price wasnt worth it, the variety of drinks was very limited, and the place was awfully overcrowded. just take a look at the picture above. i bet the organizers of zouk had the mentality of "sell as much as possible", ignoring the consequences of overcrowding...freaking profit maximizers. all we didor rather i did the whole night was mambo-ing away and of course, ogle at the many bikini babes. is $58not counting the taxi fare, drinks, misc. spending really worth it? zoukOut definitely isnt a good party to sit around and chill out with friends, nor getting to know xiao mei meis.
the party failed at making us stay and we left around 2plus to only reach home and finally fall asleep at 5am.

Sunday

my impromtu morning call the following day was at 4pm by amanda whom i was supposed to meet to catch e sneak preview of twilight at 6.40pm, J8. its been awhile since ive been to j8.

screw lousy cameras and buses

Twilight: generally, i would rate it 3 out of 5 stars. the 2 stars were taken away due to the dragginess of the show and the plot was somewhat predictable and cliched. the show just didnt have the "wow" factor in it, despite me not having read the book (on purpose). i'd figured that if you were to read the book, you would be even more disappointed given the high expectations which was what happened to many people for Harry Potter. you would go like "what the hell, this part never show! ehh that part they change, wrong 1 loh"

the 3 stars would be credited to the beautiful scenary in the show (nicely picked) and some of the heart-wrenching romantic sceneswith a beautiful lead-actress

bah, this week is gonna be hectic. i will sleep before 12am tonight...
tomorrow: secondary school gang is gonna come by my place to discuss our genting trip before bowling at SGCC in the afternoon
wednesday: cycling at ecp wif yiling/jess/hh/who else?
thursday: whole day mj with ally/sab/dion
friday: 18-hole golf wif dad/bro/bro-in-law

When you feel all alone
And the world has turned its back on you
Give me a moment please to tame your wild wild heart
I know you feel like the walls are closing in on you
It's hard to find relief and people can be so cold
When darkness is upon your door and you feel like you can't take anymore
Let me be the one you call
If you jump I'll break your fall
Lift you up and fly away with you into the night
If you need to fall apart
I can mend a broken heart
If you need to crash then crash and burn
You're not alone

pilot compass test

  • Dec. 12th, 2008 at 1:25 AM

yesterday

its been awhile since i've woken up so early, like 10:45am to head down to CMPB, SAF careers centre for my compass test. on 195 from tiong bahru, i met this vj girl who coincidentally was going for the same thing...female pilot-wannabe.

omgosh i must say the female invigilator for today's compass test is GORGEOUSall her fault or else i would have fared better

the test compromises of mainly hand-eye coordination, reflexes, calculation etc. testing. today's the most stressed day i've experienced since after A levels, where they made you to

- press red for wrong and green for right when they flashed maths questions like 371-59 = 318 and you have to press it as fast as you can.

- listen to countdown from 500, 496, 492 in multiples of 4, and when the pattern goes off, press the trigger

- use the joystick to aim the cursor ( 4 directional ) back to 1 point which the computer keeps moving around

- listen using your headphones to something like "green, circle" and random shapes keep appearing till a green circle with a number appears, and you have to press "green" and the number inside

- THEN, DO ALL THOSE AT THE SAME TIME

there you go, the ultimate multi-task/hand-eye coordination test, and of course, there were many other sections

my proudest moments
- got 30/30 for maths questions done under pressure of time
- scored 9, 8, 10 out of 10 for flying the plane through hoops
my sadest moments
- din do so well for some tests
- totally din understand 1 test and anyhow input answers
- din get the invigilators number

2 to 3 weeks is the time the letter will come to tell you if you're rejected or selected for round 2, the interview. pray hard for kavin please

i would fly this one day

yesterday x3

my body clock woke me up at 2pmgiven that i slept at 5am and i slacked around waiting for miss.extortion to finish her training before i could meet her for dinner + ice cream and take back my SAT book, which im gonna pass to hian huat to mug.

end up, miss.extortion displayed her prowess by being in-decisive and demanding, firstly saying wanna go vivocity then when i picked her at buangkok, she say wanna go compasspoint for dinner + ice cream instead . cmon, who goes to compass for ice-cream?! the condition for us to go to dhoby/orchard for dinner is that the ice-cream is on me. see the extortion now people?

had dinner at dhoby's kfc in the end and bummed around before we played the legendary game, photohunt which happens to be my favourite arcade game. and miss.extortion apparently sucks at it THEN we went on for BnJ's at The Cathay =)

i was supposed to meet some friends to club that night (with a sat book in hand cause some genius didnt pass it to me in a plastic bag, all the girls probably would run away from the "nerd") after my nightmare with miss.extortion but on the way sending her back we decided to just chillovernight at my place and sing K. clubbing's gonna happen on friday night.

camwhored before we said goodbye =)

  • 4:14 AM

its been about 8 days since ive returned from europe but it isnt too late to blog about the trip...

firstly, i had a bad feeling before the trip and was kinda reluctant to go to europe, and my prediction came true, it sucked on a whole. yes. i must say it sucks though many had told me not to complain cause im already very lucky to be able to go to europe. maybe its cause im comparing it to the central europe(lots of shopping and nice sightseeing) or spain(where there was lots of shopping...cheap ZARA, Massimo Dutti etc.) trips i went in e last 2 years. too much of church-visiting/monument-viewing can be a bore.

i told myself ill never step into europe again till maybe my honeymoon with my wife.

still, there were still many beautiful memories worth cherishing in this trip.

my mum and i went on the trip together

SNOW! yes, there was intermittent heavy snow throughout the trip except the last stop at Vienna. luckily it came earlier than predicted this year.

chapel in the salt mine (note that everything is carved out, even the chandeliers are made of pure transparent salt. on the walls are all christian-related art carved out of salt)

one of the highlights of the trips was the salt mine we painstakingly wandered into. we had to walk down like uncountable flights of steps which looked endless from the top to 137m deep inside before viewing magnificent sculptures/rooms carved out of salt.

at places, the salt on the wall is pure and we could just eat it. its a cool fact that the temperature down below is maintained at a comfy 17 degrees celcius!

concentration camp

another supposed "highlight" was the concentration camp which will leave a deep scar in my mind forever. we arrived late at the camp and was taken by a guide through the camp, visiting room after room of total horror.

an example of what we were made to see

the guide told us stories (via radio into our headsets which worsened the effect) of how thousands of innocent people are killed in this place by gas chambers/mass execution etc. we entered room after room which contained exhibitions/pictures of actual things left behind by the dead, like giant cabinets of rotting shoes, clothes, thousands of photo frames of the victims looking right at you when you walk down narrow corridors they are placed at (those you see at funerals), AND EVEN WOMEN'S HAIR. YES. ROTTING WOMEN'S HAIR, A GIANT CABINET OF THEM. i took a picture of it but it got so eerie when reviewing it, and also as a form of respect for them, i deleted it lol. the situation then was so tense, given that our group were the only one in the camp, the sky was getting darker and darker and the guide's voice/words is just frightening (kept saying words like "they had no choice", "they didnt know they were going to die"). the situation was so tense that i'd bet if one of us were to go behind the group and shout "POW!", a few of us would get heart attack, and the girls all would probably start crying (lol evil thought).

well, typing this now is really freaking me out. i shall stop here and if any of you are visiting eastern europe, do sign up for this optional tour, its the best horror movie you'd ever see if your lifetime. just imagine yourself being watched by thousands of the victim's souls as you see their belongings and hear their stories in the cold.

night view in the concentration camp...wtf.

AND OF COURSE, NOT FORGETTING THE FOOD!

and the classy + spacious lobby of Best Western Hotel

night/day scene in prague

prague is known for its breath-taking scenary, portrayed many times by those korean drama serials, i heard. well, maybe my expectations were placed too high so i got kinda disappointed. just like any other city in europe, river, cruise, lights.

hell yeah. taken in istanbul intl airport where we transitted both last year and this.

in all, eastern europe pales in comparison to the rest of europe given that the people are so full of themselves and they cant even speak the simple international language, english. and i cant believe that the staff at Mexx couldn't even fill simple Tax Refund forms when we shopped there. definitely not a place for backpacking due to language barrier, not like central europe. and central europe has a good railway system for backpacking too, dont have to drive.

4:20am, shit im gona wake up at like 2pm again -.-? well my body clock's adjusted ever since post-prom clubbing. gonna meet eunice for dinner later and club with others afterwards.

p6 class gathering

  • Dec. 6th, 2008 at 2:45 AM

i have a really weird p6 class. after 5 years of not meeting up, we decided to start having class gatherings this year. funny eh?

kinda missed the first gathering as i was away in m'sia so before prelims i decided to organise the next meeting, which took place last night at marina square seoul garden. supposedly, mr. kavin tan was supposed to plan everything with lynnette but he went overseas so she did most of it herself and with the help of mongs (really not his fault!)

time can be a really scary. it can heal all wounds, yet change people till the extent you barely remember each other. yet, it was great to see that we interacted and had fun as though none of us drifted apart, and MOST of us remembered everyone except some gundus and senile people...shall not mention names here la huh =)

pics of some of us (mongs/ lynnette/ meng jinn/ jun xian/ wenting/ kavin/ darryl/ sylvester)

it is important to have nice eaters at your table at places like seoul garden. heng got jun xian meng jinn and wenting who are civilised people.

those who were supposed to come like hwa xiang/shiyuan/grace didnt turn up and wenting/jun xian/lynnette pang seh-ed us for boyfriend/cca/clubbing respectively. good for them, they missed out the real fun when we talked, laughed and teased each other and stood around deciding what to do next after seoul garden.

in the end, we took a train down to dhoby to catch Four Christmases at cathay. $10 for weekend price for this movie isnt really worth the money, since there isnt any great sound effect or animation or whatsoever. i'd credit the actors for making this a hilarious movie, but the 70-odd minute length and sudden ending sucks.
overall : Four Christmases is a movie worth downloading and watching on your comp.

trained down to kovan after the movie where we parted and walked home with jonas, darryl and wilbur. that began the "guy's talk", and id agree with jonas that a convo with many guys will naturally lead to dirty talk HAHA.

3:02am, time for bed. gather again soon la huh. next time would be chomp chomp/clubbing. check your facebook regularly.

post-prom party

  • Dec. 5th, 2008 at 12:21 AM

okay people i have a blog doesnt mean i must regularly update it right? =x

been kinda busy since i came back from europe so didnt really have the chance to blog. and kavin tan's down with bad gastric flu (vomit + diarrhoea) THANKS TO HORNY HUAT who passed it to me when im having pri 6 class gathering at seoul garden later today and sister's wedding dinner this weekend. NO OILY AND SPICY FOOD WTF?!

luckily i didnt go for VJ's prom cause people said it wasnt worth the money, but went for post-prom at 'O' bar instead.

in all, post prom was okay-okay given that the place was empty before the people at prom came down but overcrowded when they flooded in. some "unglam" sights of people vomitting from drinking too much disgusted me like hell. i hate the fact that ill get a headache even if i drink a little alcohol.

and i cant believe i made quite a few friends at post-prom but forgot to take pics with them except this girl who flashed her camera right into my eye >.< (ps i forgot your name, if you see this send me k?)

sorta expected 'O' bar to close later than the usual 3am cause its vj's post-prom and the organizers might be able to do something about it, but wth. so i invited hh, yiling, jessica, melissa over to play MJ! (actually only the 4 of us played, melissa just talked on the phone and slept. time for you to learn mj!

yiling kavin jessica hh melissa
meet up for mj game soon!

happy birthday mum!

  • Nov. 20th, 2008 at 10:22 PM

The Jewel Box

last night we went up to some wulu corner of mount faber to dine at The Jewel Box to celebrate my mum's birthday falls on today. for those who dont know, jewel box is just a place where theres 3 restaurants and a small gift shop located together with a cable car station.

upon arriving, you will be greeted with smiley faces and car valet like a hotel.

staff - "hello, welcome! have a booking?"

me - "yes, table for 7"

staff - "ok this way please"

at the main entrance counter, staff - "sir, you guys must pay an entrance fee (cover charge) of $4 per person..." (covers the entrance, snow shows, free cable car ride...but what the heck? just say entrance fee la, not say if u enter but dun pay cannot see the snow show cause its non-excludable

snowing on mount faber

the restaurant we dined in was called Empress Jade. undecided to take the $88/pax or $68/pax set dinner, we decided to take four $88s and three $68s and share.
the $88 v.s $68 contest.
Result: $68 - 5, $88 - 1, rated by comparing each catogery of dish (appetiser, main course, dessert etc.)

happy birthday mummy!

night view from the cable car

its been ages since i last took singapore's cable car, which loses tonnes of money each year LOL. can see why, the cable cars are mostly empty. the whole ride to sentosa and looping back takes about 25 mins, and it gives you picturesque views of harbourfront, Superstar Virgo which happened to be parking there yesterday, and the bird's eye view of the IR which is being constructed now (will be good when its done).

on a side note, the jewel box has this 2hr sky dining which i definitely am gona try one day

happy birthday to all mums having their birthday today!

overall comments : i forgot to take more pictures of the FANTASTIC christmas light-ups, night scenes from the mountain top and snow shows so not much to post, but The Jewel Box definitely lives up to its name for a nice place to chill out with your loved ones and going on a date, despite being quite inaccessible unless you take cable car, drive, cab or shuttle bus up the long and winding road.

Empress Jade : the marble table setting is really huge, and theres like almost 1m between each of us and we had to shift to make it cosier. $68 set dinner is better than the $88 set dinner. with no carpets or any other form of good insulation, the sound gets reflected alot from the class walls in the place so it gets a little noisy sometimes when theres only 3 tables filled. luckily we were the only ones eating after the other 2 groups left, kinda felt like we booked the whole place :)
